Just a few thoughts on Dog Fighting

Just a few thoughts on Dog Fighting

Pit Bulls, are they really as harmful as some officials say?
Today I was reading some news articles, and I stumbled upon one about a recent dog figting ring in the UK.
"An undercover Panorama team found the dogs - which are banned in the UK - were brought into the country using false documents.

The dogs are smuggled across Europe for organised fighting and Northern Ireland is the epicentre of the network.

Pit bulls have been banned in the UK since 1991 and dog fighting has been illegal since the 19th Century. ..

The gangs breed, train and fight the unregistered pit bulls - the type of dog which killed five-year old Ellie Lawrenson in St Helen's in December - and Panorama spent 17 months infiltrating the illegal world of dog fighting."
I also understand that Pit Bulls are banned in some U.S. cities. The dogs are considered "Dangerous Dogs"by some, but are they really? In the past few years a ripple of new legislation has spread across the country to "control and regulate vicious dogs." potential Constitutional problems with breed-specific laws, specifically as they relate to the 14th Amendment.
First, all breeds of dogs are potentially dangerous.? By banning one breed, the law is "under inclusive."? That violates the owner's right to equal protection under the law.
Second, dog pedigrees are often muddled.? Is a mixed-breed dog substantially a pit-bull or is it something else?? Because breed identification is often questionable, the law is vague.?? This lack of specificity violates an individual owner's due process rights.
Are these dog breeds really dangerous, or is it in fact their owners and breeders who are the dangerous ones? One New York man says it is the owners, Brian C. Anderson had moved his new family to Bedford Park, NY in late 1997, he soon became afraid of his own neighborhood
"Pit-bull owners had converted the little park in front of our apartment building into a dog-training ground, where they goaded their animals into attacking one another or taught them to hang from tree branches to strengthen their jaws and their tenacity."
Dog attacks are on the increase, rising 2% a year since 1986. That is 42% , One must wonder if traits in certain dog breeds can change in 21 years, or is it their environment that changes them.

I just have to bring up the Michael Vick case. he has recently plead guilty to dog fighting charges.Vick, one of the NFL's most exciting players, was charged with competitive dogfighting and conducting the venture across state lines. The 19-page indictment alleged Vick was highly involved in the operation, alleging that he attended fights and paid off bets when his dogs lost. It said he also was involved in the executions of dogs that did not perform well.

--- Is this the kind of person we want being role models for the the youth of America... take a step back and think about it!

Dog Fighting makes me sick! The training of these animals to fight makes me even sicker! And the murder of these animals is devastating!
